Transportable, sectional layouts that can be set up temporarily at public events have become an important part of the model train hobby. The PNW chapter has an active Modular Group. In this group, different members build sections of the layout, called modules. These modules are designed to be interchangeable, allowing the group to rearrange them to fit the size and shape of the event space. Typically, the chapter “owns” the corner modules and the layout’s control panel. From time to time, the chapter brings the corners and members’ modules together to create a large, connected exhibit layout.
